The table on the last page reflects just a brief overview of what developmentally appropriate practice looks like in general, but what about your classroom setting? Again, we ask, how do YOU BELIEVE young children learn? Each classroom setting is unique, diverse, and possesses a variety of needs. It is imperative to think about what your values look like in practice, and how the above elements are taken into consideration in your planning. These elements provide the foundation for your classroom—if there are cracks or inconsistencies in your beliefs, there will likely be problems that result.
Take a moment to fill out this brief self assessment regarding some of the key elements of developmentally appropriate practice. For each blank, provide a brief description of your current practice. Make sure to write your responses down, because you will look back at these later in this training.
