Having practical strategies for different scenarios is vital for establishing appropriate responses with and between children. For those children who have a pattern for this type of behavior, you may want to have some solution kit cue cards (similar to these from CSEFEL) to refer to when this happens again. This cue cards will be used by you initially, but should be available for the child to refer to when needed in the future.

Beginning to look beyond behavior and look at the cause is a complicated process. It will take time, tools, and patience to get to a place of deeper understanding. Additional tools are available in the Extend section of this PROTON, but take time to complete the attached form. How can you reframe your perceptions from annoyance or control to a “call for help” framework? Consider this as your first step to understanding challenging behavior. The table below provides some ideas for reflecting on inappropriate practice and reducing mistaken behaviors.
>>> TO DO...
Complete the attached form to adopt a “call for help” perceptual framework in the classroom. Role play a Call for Help Perceptual frame in the following scenarios. Use a partner from your teaching team and record your responses separately. Compare your responses and find common ground in addressing behavior.
