Take a look at the chart below. McDermott and Fox (2019) provide an overview of executive function tasks in young children. This includes a variety of activities that measure a 3- to 5-year old’s ability to demonstrate these skills, including cognitive flexibility, working memory, and inhibitory control. Future PROTONs will look at these skills more in-depth, but the chart provides an overview of what these skills look like early in their development in young children.
