Based on the video you have already watched, as well as the voice from the field, consider how the teacher might have used this “staging the environment” form to plan for this experience. While this was more of a teacher-directed lesson, there was opportunity for the children to explore, develop hypotheses, and test their ideas as well. The teacher had to create some materials in advance, and ensure an area of the room was free from clutter and distractions enough to work with a smaller group of children.

This form was designed to help teachers plan for these kind of changes necessary for hook lessons to be successful. Determine first which topic the children will be exploring, then briefly describe a few different hook lessons that can support those three elements of interest, initial knowledge, and previous knowledge. This description should include the part of the room where the lesson will take place, what modifications need to be made, and briefly what the children and teachers will be doing. Identify also how learning will be documented: how will you record what children will do, say, and ask?
